Hold my falls dayKanto Lampo Waterfall is a stepped cascade in Beng village, a short drive from Ubud. This page gives the distance and travel time, what the official site charges, the hours, how private bookings work and when the stone steps fill up.

Main points first
The car route from Puri Saren Agung, the Ubud palace, to Kanto Lampo runs about 11.4 km and takes roughly 11 minutes on the OpenStreetMap routing, with no traffic and no stops.1 That makes it one of the two nearest falls to the town, level with Tegenungan.7 On a real Bali morning, with scooters and a ceremony procession, double the figure and you will be close.
From the capital the picture changes. detikBali puts the trip from Denpasar at about 46 minutes, and The Jakarta Post located the falls some 30 kilometers north of Denpasar.6,2 The falls lie east of Ubud rather than north, in the Gianyar countryside, so a driver coming from the south coast will usually pass Sukawati before turning toward Beng.
The official address is Jl. Kaliasem Lingk. Kelod Kangin, Beng, in Gianyar Regency.3 Type the village name as well as the waterfall name into your navigation, since several different spellings of Kanto Lampo circulate on the web. A bad pin can send you to the wrong lane, and the lanes here are narrow. The Kanto Lampo Waterfall distance from Ubud is given below in kilometers, as the car route computes it.

The history is short and unusual. The Jakarta Post reported in 2016 that before social media found it, the cascade was the main water source for the local subak irrigation and had only a pair of narrow streams trickling down the cliff.10 The 15-meter-high waterfall began to attract local and international visitors after it featured on social media sites in 2015.11 A modest irrigation point became a destination within a single year.
The name is older than the fame. The Jakarta Post says it comes from the now rare Kanto Lampo trees, which bear sweet fruit, and the official site says the tree is significant in Balinese culture and Hindu rituals.12,13 Villagers also consider the waterfall a sacred place from which they take holy water for ceremonies, and several shrines stand around it.14
That mix explains the tone of a good visit. The place is a village asset, a spring of ritual water and a photo spot at the same time. Keep your voice low near the shrines, step round any offerings and remember that the people washing at the edge may be there for purification rather than play.
The official site describes terraced rock formations with gentle cascades, a short scenic walk to the falls and a shallow pool that invites safe swimming.8,9 Indonesia.Travel calls it a terraced waterfall about 15 meters high that has no heavy stream, close to the public settlement, so there is no long trek to reach it.4 The water falls over wide steps rather than in a single curtain.
That shape makes it friendly. A fall with no plunge and a shallow pool is a place where a nervous swimmer can wade in and a child can sit on the steps. The Jakarta Post noted road access, parking, stalls and two modest changing rooms when it visited in 2016.15 Expect an even simpler version of that today: a few stalls, a changing area and a short stair.
Wet stone is the one real hazard. The listing for the site tour says paths on its itinerary include uneven ground, stairs and slippery areas near waterfalls, and that after rain falls can look brown. Put on shoes with good grip, not hotel slippers, and leave the pool to children if the flow looks heavier than it does in your photographs.

The official site lists an entrance fee of Rp25,000 per person, valid for weekday visits with no booking needed.5 detikBali listed the same Rp25,000 in November 2024, with opening from 06:30 to 18:00 WITA.6 In 2016 The Jakarta Post wrote that a donation of Rp5,000 per person was enough to enjoy the falls.15 The fee has risen sharply since fame arrived; it is a village asset that needs maintenance.
The site also sells the whole area to a private party. Season 1 costs Rp1,500,000 for one hour from 6 to 7 AM, Season 2 costs Rp3,500,000 for two hours from 6 to 8 AM and Season 3 costs Rp6,500,000 for three hours from 6 to 9 AM, each for a maximum of 10 people.16 That is a niche product for a photographer or a wedding party, not for a casual visit, but it tells you how seriously the village values the empty-pool shot.
On a tour the price is bundled. The site tour is listed from $14 for a private tour, and its listing does not break out the fall's entrance money. Ask the guide whether the gate fee is already paid. Keep a few banknotes anyway: parking, toilets and the donation boxes at shrines are separate habits.

According to the site tour listing, queues for photographs can form at Kanto Lampo at peak hours, and an earlier start is advised against crowds. That is the clearest statement we have on queues here, and it is about the tour's own experience. It fits the setting: a short flight of stone steps with a single good frame will always form a line when many people arrive together.
The gate opens at 06:30, so the easiest cure is to be early.6 One listing in the comparison below puts Kanto Lampo first on its list of stops, ahead of the other falls. If you are planning your own route, copy that idea: the first fall of the day tends to be the quietest, and a pool that is still cool will make the photographs better.
If your schedule is not flexible, work around the line. Walk past the main frame to the quiet edge, take the wide shot there and come back to the steps when the group in front moves on. A phone with a wide lens and a dry cloth for the spray are more useful here than a tripod.

The villagers consider the waterfall a sacred place from which they can acquire the holy water
The site tour lists Tegallalang, Tirta Empul, Tukad Cepung, Kanto Lampo plus Tibumana in that order, with a transfer of 1 hour at each end. Kanto Lampo is the fourth stop, listed with a break, a visit and free time, and swimming. A neighbour listing puts it after Goa Raja and before Tibumana on an 8 to 9 hour day.
Kanto Lampo and Tibumana make a natural pair. By the routing Tibumana lies 15.2 km and 17 minutes from the palace, and the two falls are in different districts, Gianyar and Bangli.17,18 The small difference in distance is a reminder that the ring of falls east of Ubud is compact: the transfers between them are short, and the day is mostly about walking and waiting.
If you are building your own day, start with Kanto Lampo, move to Tibumana, then add a temple or a terrace after lunch when the heat peaks. The map on this page shows all three falls together, with the close-up that fits them on one frame.
