The Ubud to Sekumpul waterfall drive time depends on which source you read: a routing engine, a national news site and a tour listing give three different answers. Here they are side by side, with the walk and the fees.

Main points first
The question of the drive from Ubud to Sekumpul gets different numbers from different sources, and all of them can be right. The routing of the OpenStreetMap project, with a car on a free road, gives about 66.9 km and 69 minutes from the Ubud Palace area.1 That is a calculation with no traffic, no stops and no mountain bends slowed by trucks.
A national news and features site reports that Sekumpul lies about 95 km from Ngurah Rai airport and that the total trip from Denpasar or Kuta takes about 3 hours, so it advises starting in the morning.4,5 That figure starts from the south coast, not from Ubud, and it counts the way people really drive.
The listing for a small-group day lists a ride of 2 hours in a Jeep or SUV from the pickup areas, Ubud among them. Use the routing figure as the floor, the listing figure as the working number and plan the day around the second. Add margin for a toilet stop, a viewpoint and a slow stretch behind a truck, and treat a tight schedule on this road as a risk.
Same name, different days
| Listing | Length | At the pool's edge | Group |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small-group outing | 10 hours | 2 hours at the falls | Capped at 10 guests |
| Private north day | 8.5 hours | Viewpoint, trek extra | Private |
| Private hiking day | 10 hours | Waterfall hike | Private, own guide |
| Munduk trek day | 7 to 10 hours | View of Sekumpul | Trek-focused |
Lengths and access as each listing lists them; the trek fee on the private north day is about Rp150,000 to 250,000 per person.
The falls are not open round the clock. The same national site gives opening hours of 08:00 to 15:00 WITA every day.2 A late start therefore eats directly into the time you have at the water, and the walk down and back needs daylight to spare. Aim to be on the steps early, so that you are not racing the gate on the way back up.
The listing that goes to the falls puts the whole outing at 10 hours, with 2 hours at the falls themselves and an optional lunch of 1 hour at an extra fee. The stops after Sekumpul are Ulun Danu Bratan Temple and Taman Ayun Temple, 1 hour each, with 1 hour back to the drop-off.
If you are staying in Ubud, ask at booking for the earliest pickup the listing offers, since the road north is the part of the day with the least slack. Pickup areas are chosen at booking, and Ubud is one of nine listed. If you are the kind of traveller who sleeps through an alarm, this is the day to set two of them. Work out the Sekumpul Waterfall travel time from Ubud first, then count back from the gate hours to get your pickup.
How the day is spent
The listing gives each stop's time; the overall day is listed at 10 hours, so the rest is pickups and waiting.
Sekumpul is a walk, not a roadside stop. The tourism ministry says the way from the entrance runs about 300 m through forest and over roughly 365 concrete steps built by the managers, with sturdy handrails on the stairs.3 The national site gives the same step count as about 350 to 365 and mentions a wooden bridge over a small river.8
What waits at the bottom is a group of falls. The name means a group, and the provincial portal says seven separate falls are scattered among high cliffs and lush greenery.7,9 The ministry adds that green rock cliffs of 100 to 150 m surround the flow and that visitors can swim in the pool where the water lands.10
Going down is the easy half. Plan for the return climb on the same steps, give yourself time to rest on the way up, wear shoes with grip, and remember that the national site calls some parts of the path slippery, especially in the rainy season.11 The water can look clear or slightly cloudy depending on the season.12

Own guide and car
Read the listing before you pay, because some Sekumpul days stop at a viewpoint. One private day to the north lists a visit to the Sekumpul waterfall view point, and says that to visit the waterfall itself a trek and a guide are required at an extra fee of about Rp150,000 to 250,000 per person. The listing starts from $31.
Other listings go all the way down. The small-group day lists 2 hours at Sekumpul Waterfall on its stops. A private 10-hour hiking day has its own guide and car, a jungle hike past a series of waterfalls, a coffee plantation and a water temple, from $55.
A Munduk trekking day lists a jungle hike to Banyu Wana Amerta Waterfall and a view of Sekumpul, with intensive trekking on steep, slippery paths. That is a different day from the ones above, and the table below sets them side by side so you can see which one stops where. Whichever you choose, ask yourself whether you want to stand at the base of the falls or only to see them from a distance, because that single answer decides the price.

A national news site reports a gate ticket of Rp10,000 for domestic visitors and Rp20,000 for foreign visitors, with parking at Rp5,000 for a car and Rp2,000 for a motorbike.2,13 It lists medium and long treks from Rp125,000 to Rp200,000 per person, guide included, reaching more hidden falls.14 Fees are set locally and can change, so treat every figure here as the last one reported rather than as a price list, and ask the guide to confirm it at the gate.
In November 2023 the Buleleng tourism office closed four unofficial ticket counters on the road to Sekumpul, in the villages of Pegayaman and Lemukih.15 The news report says they charged domestic visitors Rp 300,000 and foreign visitors Rp 600,000.16 If a counter on the approach asks for a sum like that, you are not at the gate, and the sensible move is to ask your driver or guide before paying anything.
The head of the tourism office said that, in tourism theory, a risky attraction must be visited with a guide.17 A guided listing settles who to pay before you arrive, and it is worth reading what the listing says about entry and trek fees before you rely on that.

Sekumpul, meaning 'a group of', is a collection of seven waterfalls located in north Bali.
Before the long drive
The road north passes some of Bali's best-known sights. Ulun Danu Beratan temple, on Lake Beratan in Tabanan, was founded in 1634, and visitors wear temple dress or a sash provided at the entrance.18,19 The routing puts it about 43.9 km and 41 minutes from the Ubud Palace area.20
Gitgit is in Sukasada district, 11 km south of Singaraja, and Banyumala is in Wanagiri; the routing gives 23.3 km and 38 minutes from Banyumala on to Sekumpul.21,22,6 A listing that pairs Sekumpul with Banyumala and Jatiluwih lists 8.5 hours, with a 2-hour drive out and 1 hour back.
That is the trade in every North Bali day: every extra stop is one more hour on a day that already starts early. Choose one waterfall and one temple rather than a string of them, and you will still have the energy for the water when you get there. Ubud to Sekumpul Waterfall travel time is only one part of the day, since every temple stop adds time on the road.
